Care in East Grinstead & Lingfield is a charity run entirely by volunteers with the aim of providing practical help to local people.
There may be some of you reading this that have considered volunteering to drive for CARE and then had second thoughts about making a commitment. Let me try and dispel any such fears. First of all, any time you give is entirely up to you. It is not a regular commitment to any particular day or time - and if you are unable to help when asked, you just say so.
Most jobs involve giving lifts to elderly people, to doctors, opticians, dentists, chiropodists, or perhaps to do a little shopping and back home again. (You may reclaim your mileage expenses). Many rely on the help we give them and are very appreciative and you will meet some delightful people. The service CARE offers really can make a big difference, as may live on their own and are housebound, without family or friends available.
Perhaps you would prefer to take a turn at manning the CARE telephone helpline in the comfort of your own home? (You will be trained and given assistance with this). Whatever your role in CARE, it is a Christian response to the needs of our neighbors and you could make such a difference to somebody’s life.
If you are interested to find out more, phone Carole Grainger on 325482.
