Autumn 2008
This autumn we have two interleaved sermon series - and one is on the place of the Bible in the life of the people of God. We don't worship the Bible, but it is very important in our lives. It is immensely powerful, and can achieve great things. The great 19th century preacher, Spurgeon, compared it to a caged lion: you don't have to defend it, he said: you just have to let it out. But despite having been entrusted with such a valuable treasure, it is all too easy to neglect it!

The second series is on the meaning of Holy Communion. We know this is something that Jesus instructed his followers to do in remembrance of him - but how are we do understand it? Can we go a little deeper into some aspects of its meaning?

Then in November and December there will be a three-part series on the Christian hope. We often speak as if heaven is the great hope that Christians have to look forward to: but in the Bible that is a temporary stage that exists between our death and the day of Christ's return, when the dead will rise, and a new age will be ushered in - a new heaven and earth, in which righteousness dwells. We are missing something very important if have no grasp of these things, which are there in the Bible but seem to be rarely spoken of.
