CHURCH ARMY trains and sends evangelists to work in Anglican churches and in projects with children, homeless people and the elderly. We have had visits from Mark and Heather Dadds who work with the Marylebone Project in London for women in housing need, and with ''The Bridge'', helping disadvantaged people return to useful lives in the community. Di Giles, who was a Church Army Sister, is our rep.

We support the Marybelone Project in London, run by women for women in housing need.   It provides accommodation for vulnerable women and runs a day centre supporting over 5000 women every year, offering crucial advice and practical assisstance.

Malawi: ‘the heart of Africa’

Taken from the newsletter of Philip Johanson OBE, International Secretary

“ON SUNDAY, 28th June 2009 in St Paul’s Cathedral Blantyre, in the presence of the Bishop of southern Malawi, we officially launched Church Army Malawi, and I commissioned the first two people in that country. The cathedral was packed for the three hour service in a style which only Africans can provide. We had two great choirs together with a group of traditional dancers – and no, I didn’t join in the dancing! The worship expressed the breadth of Anglicanism with incense, charismatic worship and everything in between!

Martin and Tiyanjana were both commissioned, and in August left for the Church Army training college in Nairobi. Yes commissioned prior to training! The Bishop wanted to get Church Army ‘on the road’ so to speak and for them to go to Nairobi as Church Army Malawi. Martin was already working as an Evangelist in the Diocese and had completed a one year course in Nairobi back in 2004. Unit recently Martin was working as the Diocesan Evangelism and Stewardship coordinator. Tiyanjana also has evangelism experience working with young people. In this situation I could see no valid reason to disagree with the Bishop!

MBULUMBUZI is about an hours drive from Blantyre, in June 2009, a church planting mission took place in an area without any Christian presence, the response to the mission was exciting with a large number of people committing their lives to Christ. Those people have been followed up and there is now a Christian community meeting regularly for worship, teaching and outreach.”
