CHURCH ARMY trains and sends evangelists to work in Anglican churches and in projects with children, homeless people and the elderly. We have had visits from Mark and Heather Dadds who work with the Marylebone Project in London for women in housing need, and with 'The Bridge', helping disadvantaged people return to useful lives in the community. Di Giles, who was a Church Army Sister, is our rep.

We support the Marybelone Project in London, run by women for women in housing need. It provides accommodation for vulnerable women and runs a day centre supporting over 5000 women every year, offering crucial advice and practical assistance.

THANK YOU to all who helped and supported the Church Army weekend. We raised £151 and with the sale of marmalade at Food for Thought I was able to send a cheque for £175. £35 went towards the production of the Lent resource book (we had 70 copies at St John's). £140 has been allocated to the Marylebone Project. I have received a letter for Church Army and I pass on their thanks to you. Church Army are committed to working in partnership with others, the task of sharing the good news of the risen Christ in word and action. They very much appreciate our partnership in prayer and practical support.
If you have been able to read the Lent Resource book you will have seen what varied areas of Christian work they do. Our prayer is that God will bless the work as through Him we and they seek to make a difference in the lives of others.

UPDATE

"GOD is as keenly interested in seeing happiness in their homes as seeing them with Bibles and clean hearts."
A quote from Wilson Carlile, founder of the Church Army in 1882.
125 years on and little has changed. Still we have the homeless people sleeping on our streets. The Church Army Marylebone Project is run for homeless women.
Women still face huge barriers in accessing vital Services. As a result many are forced to sleep rough, placing them in danger of assault or in a range of hidden and insecure housing situations. Church Army is a leading provider of support services to homeless women in London, offering accommodation, advice and assistance. Many are asylum seekers whose cases have failed and are facing destitution in this country with no means of survival; many are unable to return to their home country and live each day in fear. Many have fled persecution and war in their home country and have been separated from family and children.

Accommodation: There are five hostels: Marylebone, Elgood House, The Bridge, Bradbury House and more recently St John’s House Richmond, where four ladies are being helped to become independent.
Advice: There are teams of people at Marylebone helping with finance, medical needs, literacy and numeracy, English language and general support. Assistance: finance, child care.

Please pray for:

Mark & Heather Dadds, who need protection as they go out in the streets of London seeking those who are sleeping rough.
Ajebush Tesfazhi, a refuge support worker, who offers advice and support to desperate groups of women.
Pray for the love of God to be seen to flow through all who minister at the hostels, that Jesus will become real in the lives of the women they serve.
