Need a Loan?

FOLLOWING A CLEAN BILL of health from the External Auditors, the Accounts of the Credit Union for July – December 2006 were approved by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) and the first successful AGM held on 11 May 2007. Sadly we lost three of our Directors – Victoria Dickinson, who had been our Secretary, Brenda McCrory, the Chair of the Loans Committee, and Valerie Powell, Member of the Loans Committee. All these ladies had put in a great deal of very hard work to establish and run the Credit Union. Thanks also to Peter Roberts who has also stepped down as Treasurer, but has remained a Director and joined the Loans Committee. The remaining Directors were re-elected and Bill Blackledge has become the Treasurer and a new Director.
After a three month trial, our second collection at the Welcome Café, Trinity Methodist Church, was not as successful as we had hoped, so the Tuesday Collection Point has moved to Moatfield Surgery. We certainly meet more people there and from a publicity point of view this is very positive. We are also joining up new members and by the time you read this will have reached our 100th - watch the local press. One of our collection point volunteers, June Vincent, has joined the Administration and Marketing Committee and has proved a valuable asset with her flare for communication and efficiency. We are always looking for new members to join our Community Savings Bank. As a non-profit making organisation, run by its members for its members (an approved and regulated by the FSA), the Credit Union is potentially useful to a wide range of people. We want to encourage regular saving and offer loans to members. Among other things, loans may be used for
Car repairs or second hand purchase
University fees
School uniform or school residential trips
Washing machines/fridges/freezer/computers
Surprise bills
Holidays

EGDCU has also has a Christmas Club to help avoid debt problems at a difficult time of year; this is well worth thinking about. To join you have to be an ordinary member. Savings on these accounts will be repaid by cheque at the end of November. In addition to new members we are always looking for more Volunteers – many hands make light work!
