Home groups are small groups which meet fortnightly in peoples' homes in and around the parish for an evening of Bible study and discussion.

Associate Minister Michael Peach asks - €˜Why Home Groups?’

€œLet us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching €.
(Hebrews 10:25 NIV).

I’m utterly convinced that Home Groups are not just one of those things churches do, but a key way that we live out the good news of Christ in community together.   They are a great way of meeting together with other Christians to encourage one another to keep following Christ day by day amidst life’s difficulties. Home Groups are a great place to learn together from God’s Word and be challenged by it; to pray together, and meet a group of people we can love and care for.

For many years, meeting in a small group with other Christians has been one of the highlights of my week. When we were in Bristol we had the privilege of leading a large Home Group made up of all sorts of different people. We had people of different nationalities and ages, and with different work and life experience, some shy and some outgoing, some new Christians and some people who had been Christians for ages (from whom I learned a lot). What united us was that we all trusted in Christ and desired to live under the authority of God’s Word.

As time went on, people in the group increasingly cared more for one another, served together, grew in godliness, and looked out for one another’s needs - from our host providing everyone’s usual drink on arrival, to group members serving together in the children’s work or with the discipleship course! Studying the Bible with other people is a great thing to do. It’s good to hear other people’s insights as they look at the passage and it helps prevent you getting into a mess! One day I was leading a study and was struggling to explain something. A young lady, just 18, spoke up and suggested that what I had said couldn’t be right as it didn’t fit with the Gospel. Of course she was right and I had just got horribly tangled up!

So why not think about joining a group this Autumn? You can sign up on the lists in church or give me a call.

Most of the groups are looking at Discipleship Explored

Q. What is Discipleship Explored (DE)?

A. Discipleship Explored is a journey into the book of Philippians. As they discover Paul's extraordinary letter, participants explore for themselves the meaning of Paul's words: "For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain."

Q. Who is DE intended for?

A. DE is for anyone who wants to make the most of their Christian lives. In particular, DE is perfect for participants who have been through Christianity Explored and have recently decided to follow Christ.

Q. What topics are covered?

A. The topics covered are as follows each week:

1. Confident In Christ (Philippians 1:1-11)

2. Living In Christ (Philippians 1:12-26)

3. Standing Together In Christ (Philippians 1:27 - 2:11)

4. Transformed By Christ (Philippians 2:12-30)

5. Righteous In Christ (Philippians 3:1-9)

6. Knowing Christ (Philippians 3:10 - 4:1)

7. Rejoicing In Christ (Philippians 4:2-9)

8. Content In Christ (Philippians 4:10-23)
