In AD79, about this time, Vesuvius (near modern Naples)began to show signs of a pending eruption, which followed shortly after, smothering nearby Pompeii. Lord, we pray our thanks for your creation and all its power, as evidenced by volcanoes and earthquakes, as well as the mountain ranges and valleys they form. Just pondering such utterly awesome things makes us respect your handiwork in giving us the world as you chose to form it. Thank you Father and may we all seek to cherish and care for the world as mere temporary custodians guided by you in how this vital responsibility is achieved.
